Bottomless Pit - Overall Scene Design
Only the first half of the scene had ambient light - ostensibly a flickering lantern. A small amber light, driven to flicker by sound effects fed to the floor level speakers near the pit, provided the actual illumination. Near the U-turn, the scene was completely dark, as was the pit area, until triggered by an IR sensor. After a brief delay, strobe lights then illuminated an actor in the fright cell who drove the patrons over the pit.
